Through SOLitude’s corporate volunteering and community outreach program, The SOLution, the company has named Aquatic Biologist Brea Arvidson of Massachusetts as Volunteer of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2018. Brea has been active through various volunteering events supporting her community.
Brea started the second quarter participating in the annual New England office Earth Day cleanup with the Blackstone River Watershed Association. She and 26 other volunteers helped gathered 260 bags of trash at 4 sites – 560 pounds total. Brea also completed an independent Earth Day cleanup for 3 hours with her mother in her neighborhood in Harrisville, NH. They collected 10 pounds of trash and debris.
Next, Bea and her parents attended and volunteered for Stonewall Farm’s annual educational open house for local residents in Keene, NH. The goal of the event was to educate people about the sustainable farming practices used to produce Stonyfield dairy products. During the event, Brea assisted with parking, served as an informational guide and helped clean up after the event.
Additionally, Brea participated in a food drive benefiting Stamp Out Hunger, a charitable initiative conducted by the National Association of Letter Carriers in the United States to make significant donations of food to organizations serving those in need.
Finally, Brea spent an afternoon judging water-related projects created by 3rd and 4th graders at Wells Memorial School in Harrisville, NH. Notable projects involved running electric currents through water, flooding effects on housing, and water uptake to help illustrate the process of evapotranspiration.
Brea logged 14 volunteer hours in the second quarter, bringing her total hours for the year to 20. The family members who joined her also tallied 14 volunteering hours. In 2017, SOLitude staff volunteered more than 3,000 collective hours. Preceding Brea as Volunteer of the Quarter was Florida Regional Leader Alberto Florez.
“Brea’s generosity and dedication to her community have not gone unnoticed,” Director of Marketing Tracy Fleming said. “She understands and embodies our dedication to the environment and mission to serve.”
