This pond is a 0.25-acre private pond located in Hope, NJ. The pond owner has been a client of SOLitude’s for some time, and participates in our Annual Management Program. The client contacted SOLitude in February when algae blooms were noticed.
Scope of Work:
Filamentous algae were identified in the pond during February of 2017, but treatment could not be conducted until April due to New Jersey permitting laws. Not only was the pond nearly 100% covered in floating filamentous algae, but it also contained dense benthic filamentous algae that were throughout the entire water column.
The pond was treated on three occasions from early April through early May to control the filamentous algae. The initial treatment was difficult to perform, as our 2hp motor struggled to get through the dense algae—rowing also proved extremely difficult. An EPA registered aquatic herbicide was eventually applied from the boat using a sprayer. Major improvements could be noticed after each treatment at the pond. Today, the pond is free of algae from the surface to the bottom and the client is pleased with the results.
