SOLitude Lake Management is excited and honored to announce recent milestones achieved through the company’s dedicated community outreach program, The SOLution. This past month, SOLitude’s team surpassed 10,000 volunteering hours in our local communities since the program’s inception in 2012.
The SOLution is a company-wide program that encourages staff volunteerism, activism and education in the communities in which we live and serve. As part of the program, SOLitude supports volunteering during company hours and provides rewards, company-wide recognition and donations to the charities of each participating employee’s choice. Staff are able to increase their impact by donating time to related causes and inspiring friends, family, vendors and clients to join in their efforts.
Since the program began in 2012, SOLitude has donated more than $286,604 in goods and in-kind services to our local communities across the country. In 2017 alone, SOLitude staff helped support more than 11,000 families across the country through an array of charitable events, educational opportunities and fundraisers including:
• Lake, River and Creek Clean Ups
• Native Vegetation and Tree Plantings
• Rain Garden and Oyster Reef Castle Installations
• Invasive Species Removals
• Fishing Tournaments and Outdoor Kids’ Events
• Hurricane Relief Efforts
• Habitat for Humanity Builds
• Foodbank Backpack Programs
• Dog and Cat Adoption Events
• Blood Drives
In particular, several recent events allowed SOLitude to achieve the 10,000 hour milestone. In April, team members helped coordinate and lead 20 volunteering initiatives across the country to celebrate Earth Day. In total, SOLitude staff tallied 310 volunteering hours—a 40 percent increase from Earth Day efforts of 2017, and collected over 9,500 pounds of trash from roads, neighborhoods and local waterways—a nearly 60 percent increase from the previous year.
SOLitude hosts several other community focused efforts throughout the year:
Love Your Lake: SOLitude helps restore ecological balance to lakes or ponds that play a pivotal role in a non-profit foundation’s mission—particularly those focused on veterans, disadvantaged children and disabled individuals.
Little Gobblers: SOLitude donates turkeys and grocery store gift cards to local elementary and middle schools to help selected under-resourced families have a healthy and happy meal on Thanksgiving.
Holiday Cheer: For every new social media follower during the month of December, SOLitude donates $10 worth of toys and gifts to sick children who are spending the holidays in the hospital.
“SOLitude Lake Management has been a great volunteer partner and we look forward to working together in the future,” said Kris Unger, Primary Conservator for Friends of Accotink Creek. “Their volunteers are wilderness champions!”
