Shoreline Erosion Control SolutionsPrevent Soil Erosion with a Bioengineered Living Shoreline

Shoreline erosion is a common, natural phenomenon that can occur as a result of harsh weather, recreation, poor landscape design or, simply, an aging freshwater ecosystem. If left unaddressed, your lake, stormwater pond or canal may experience native vegetation and habitat loss, nutrient loading, excess runoff and other complications. Not to mention, shoreline erosion can be a significant eyesore for homeowners associations, golf courses, municipalities and other properties in our communities. Through SOLitude’s close partnerships, we are pleased to offer a variety of unique shoreline erosion control services that halt sedimentation and restore damaged banks.

Bioengineered Living Shorelines and Hillsides

shoreline erosion control services

SOLitude is proud to provide SOX Erosion Solutions™ in our suite of erosion control products. The patented SOX system provides an innovative, eco-friendly solution that halts hillside and shoreline erosion while immediately stabilizing shorelines and hillsides, creating a natural foundation for vegetation. These erosion control systems utilize patented mesh barriers filled with organic compost or pond sediment, which establishes your bioengineered living shoreline.

The SOX System is warrantied to provide 5+ years of stabilization and is:

  • An excellent solution for re-stabilizing and restoring the shores of waterbodies in communities and golf courses.
  • Made from a combination of ecofriendly, biodegradable burlap fabric and heavy-duty knitted mesh.
  • Immediately effective in filtering and buffering run-off water, removing harmful contaminants and benefiting waterways, all while providing ongoing erosion control and soil erosion prevention.

The SOX system is typically filled with organic compost or pond sediment. Once filled and secured, a native buffer of beneficial vegetation can be planted or sodded through the mesh and fabric layers. Some even refer to it as an “erosion control blanket.”

5+ Years of Shoreline Stabilization and Erosion Control

sox erosion control solution

Patented SOX barriers are warrantied to provide at least five years of stabilization, making them an excellent shoreline erosion control option to enhance the health and longevity of delicate banks while improving water quality and aesthetics.

In addition to being ecologically-friendly, these mesh barriers are a custom solution for every property. The patented mesh can be filled with local sediment or dredged materials from the project site and positioned at the ideal slope and width, providing between 3 inches and 4 feet of shoreline protection.

SOLitude’s hydro-rakes complement this technology, as we can utilize material within the waterbody to fill the SOX system.

Manage Your Eroding Shoreline With Beneficial Buffers

No matter the type of erosion problem you’re facing, it’s extremely important to cultivate a beneficial vegetative buffer around your waterbody. Buffers are simple to maintain and help keep sediment in place during rainstorms. They’re also known to provide a plethora of benefits beyond erosion control, including nutrient filtration and aesthetic enhancement.

One benefit of the SOX mesh technology is that it will not rip or lose its integrity over time, but rather, continue to hold the earth in place. Once in place, grass, native vegetation and buffer plants can be installed directly in to the woven mesh, creating a beautiful and living wall of plants.

Weak and damaged shorelines can reduce property values and can threaten compliance with stormwater regulations. Likewise, eroded banks often signify that your waterbody is approaching the end of its lifespan. Whether you would like to prevent soil erosion, or reinforce the strength and appearance of your lake, pond or canal ecosystem, it’s important to stay ahead of sedimentation problems using buffer management and ecofriendly shoreline erosion control services.

Soil erosion causes weak and damaged banks, reducing property values and can threaten compliance with stormwater pond regulations. Soil erosion also signifies your waterbody could be approaching the end of its lifespan. The best erosion solutions reinforce the strength and appearance of your waterbody through various erosion control products.

Erosion Control Through Knitted Mesh Technology

Through SOLitude’s close partnerships, we are proud to offer a variety of unique erosion control products that halt soil erosion and provide shoreline restoration. One of these erosion solution technologies is ShoreSOX®. Working as an erosion barrier, this photodegradable knitted mesh system can be installed by our specialists to create long-lasting sediment containment and shoreline restoration for lakes and ponds. This knitted mesh technology won’t lose its integrity over time, but rather, continue to hold the earth in place. Additionally, the SOX System can be filled with dredged materials from an adjacent waterbody or locally sourced from the site itself, removing the need for sediment disposal or transport to other areas.

Consider Alternative Erosion Solutions

While SOX is a great erosion control product, some properties require different erosion solutions. Biodegradable logs comprised of natural coconut fibers provide many of the same benefits with two to five years of shoreline erosion control. Coconut fiber logs are excellent erosion solutions for areas with waves or moving water due to their compact size, dense cores and ability to redirect water flow. Both erosion control products can be installed alongside shorelines to promote the growth of native deep-rooted plants. Installing a vegetative buffer is one eco-friendly erosion solution that helps cultivate shoreline restoration.
