SOLitude Participated In Environmental Cleanups Along The East Coast

GroupShot_Surfrider_Earth_Day_Clean_Up_Lake_Holly_04.15_eThrough its corporate volunteering and outreach program, The SOLution, employees and friends of SOLitude Lake Management, an industry leader in lake and pond management, fisheries management and related environmental services for the Eastern United States, participated in 11 environmental cleanup events during the first half of 2015, collecting 32,812 pounds of trash and debris while volunteering 235 hours.

SOLitude’s Hampton Roads, Virginia team and friends participated in two trash cleanup events with Lynnhaven River NOW and collected 1,590 pounds of trash from the river bank and surrounding areas. They volunteered at the Keep Norfolk Beautiful Day, organized by the East Ocean View Civic League in Norfolk, Virginia and helped remove 800 pounds of debris from Pretty Lake and 3,920 pounds of trash from the streets surrounding the lake. To celebrate Earth Day, the Hampton Roads team participated in a trash clean up with Surfrider Foundation at Lake Holly at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront and collected 242 pounds of trash from the banks of the lake and surrounding streets. During the 27th Annual Chesapeake Bay Foundation Clean the Bay Day, this team cleaned the shorelines of Linkhorn Bay, which is part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. In addition to organized events, one SOLitude team member ventures out weekly to clean up the Ocean View area of Norfolk, Virginia and gathers about 60 pounds of trash each trip.

Rivanna_River_Clean_Up_Charlottesville_VA_SOLitude_2015_c2-1The Charlottesville, Virginia team, along with several students from the University of Virginia, volunteered with the Rivanna Conservation Society in Charlottesville, Virginia to accumulate enough trash to fill the back of a pickup truck from the south fork of the Rivanna River Reservoir. For the 27th annual Clean the Bay Day, the Charlottesville team, cleaned two miles of the Rivanna River. Each event yielded 200 pounds of trash.

 

 

Brandywine_Cleanup_Downingtown_PA_SOLitude_2015_cSOLitude’s Delaware team and friends celebrated Earth Day at the Augustine Creek Wildlife Area in Port Penn, Delaware where they removed invasive garlic mustard plants and gathered 8,000 pounds of trash, tires and building materials. Also in honor of Earth Day, they participated in a canoe and roadside cleanup at the Brandywine Valley Association’s Annual Creek Cleanup in Downingtown, PA which yielded 5,600 pounds of trash and debris removed. And at their most recent event, this team joined the Annual Center for the Inland Bays Clean-Up and collected 1,000 pounds of trash and debris from Burtons Island in Delaware Seashore State Park.

 

 

JordanLake_CleanUp_Raleigh_NC_SOLitude_2015_cThe Carolinas team participated in the annual spring Clean-Up-A-Thon at Jordan Lake near Raleigh, North Carolina. The group worked to remove 300 bags of trash and debris and 140 tires, equaling 9,080 pounds, from the shoreline and woods surrounding the lake, helping the Haw River Assembly collect its 10,000th bag of trash since the cleanup events began in 2009.
