SOLitude Announces Record Year of Volunteering and Donations in 2014
January 7th, 2015
Through its corporate volunteering and outreach program, The SOLution, SOLitude Lake Management, an industry leader in lake and pond management, fisheries management and related environmental services for the Eastern United States, announced that 2014 was a record year with volunteering and community outreach activities, donations and partnering with key organizations who share in their mission. The company recorded 1,056 hours of individual volunteering, donated $56,430 in cash and goods, supported over 4,000 under resourced families and recycled 5,990 pounds of paper, plastics, and cardboard.
In 2014, the SOLitude staff increased their volunteering hours by 32 percent over 2013 and donated $34,890 more in goods and services compared to 2013.
“Through the efforts of our enthusiastic team, partners, and local communities, 2014 was a successful year for The SOLution,” said Tracy Fleming, SOLitude’s Director of Marketing. “While we continued to maintain relationships and support organizations that have come to depend on our support, our amazing team still reached further to find new and worthy organizations to bring into the SOLitude family.”
One of the hallmark donations of the year was an $8,290 cash donation to Wounded Wear, a non-profit organization that provides clothing modifications and inspirational opportunities for injured service men and women, as well as graphic clothing to wounded veterans and family members to raise national awareness of their sacrifice. For every new social media follower SOLitude received from July 1 to July 31, 2014, they allocated $10 to the total donation.
Jason Redman, wounded warrior and Founder of Wounded Wear, expressed his gratitude. “Wounded Wear exists to honor and support these individuals who have made that sacrifice, but we could not do it without the support of great companies like SOLitude Lake Management who appreciate, honor, and support our veterans.”
For the second year, SOLitude also grew both of their holiday giving programs, Little GOBBLERS and HOLiday Cheer. The Little GOBBLERS program donated and delivered over $2875 in turkeys and grocery store gift cards to 138 under resourced families from elementary and middle schools throughout the East Coast for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Beth Conaway, Principal at the Morris Early Childhood Center thanked SOLitude for sending 18 Food Lion gift cards and noted that 70% of their children receive free or reduced lunches, “so this will be such a help to their families.”
Over $3700 in HOLiday Cheer was spread to under resourced families and to children spending the holidays sick and in the hospital. Three “adopted” families received gifts from their wish lists and a Target gift card to allow the parents to purchase additional presents and household items. Games and toys were delivered to the children who are spending their holidays on the oncology floor at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) or at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD) in Norfolk, Virginia.
The SOLution continued the tradition of supporting organizations that have similar core values for improving the world for other people and tending to our waterways and the environment. They extended a hand at clean up events to various watershed improvement groups, taught youth about fishing and ecology at The Family and Youth Casting Call and Grave’s Mountain Lodge events, sorted and organized food for the Backpack Program at the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank and Food For Others in Fairfax, Virginia, and planted 101 trees through the National Forest Foundation.
