Fountain Maintenance Concerns: Ants in Your Pants?

March 4th, 2011

By Ethan Chappell, Aquatic Specialist

Ants_in_Otterbine_contacter-overload_Marc_cMeteorological spring is officially here, which means the beginning of the growing season. It is important to have all of your aeration systems and pond maintenance equipment in tip top shape. Spring rains and warming weather also means that insects are back on the move. Now is a good time to get ant baits in your electrical panels or begin to plan a trip from the exterminator. Electrical components are magnets to ants.

Just a few burnt ant bodies between contactors can render your pond fountain, compressor or transducer inoperable. It usually requires a simple fix, but a bit of prevention can avoid the problem all together. In the coming summer your pond will benefit from minimizing the down time on the devices installed to help maintain a healthy and beautiful body of water.
