SOLitude Announces this Year’s First Volunteer of the Quarter
April 29th, 2020
Through SOLitude’s corporate volunteering and community outreach program, The SOLution, the company has named Aquatic Specialist Robert Finnick of SOLitude’s North Florida team as Volunteer of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2020. Robert participated in an array of volunteer events from January through March.
As an active member of The SOLution program, Robert plays an important role in identifying volunteering efforts for SOLitude’s Jacksonville, FL, office. Most notably, in March, Robert helped assist with a controlled burn event hosted by the North American Sarracenia Conservancy, an organization with which he regularly volunteers. He mobilized several colleagues to spend a full day as volunteer firewatchers to ensure flames did not jump the firebreak. They also helped start “back burns,” which serve a critically important role in the controlled burn process by removing fuel from the downwind portion of targeted burn areas. Likewise, Robert and his colleagues used their knowledge of rare and endangered species, including carnivorous plants and native orchids, to ensure several acres of biologically sensitive land remained protected throughout the process. In total, the group generated 49 total volunteer hours through this event.
Robert is currently the sixth most active volunteer across the company. In the first quarter of 2020, he generated 42 personal volunteer hours. Preceding him was Customer Service Representative Becky Snyder of Shrewsbury, MA, who was named the Volunteer of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of 2019.
“Robert’s passion and dedication to the local environments in his community have not gone unnoticed,” Director of Marketing & Communications Tracy Fleming said. “He truly embodies SOLitude’s mission to serve and protect nature.”
The SOLution is a company-wide program that encourages the company and all employees to strive to “create a better world” through volunteerism, community outreach, sustainability and environmental consciousness. SOLitude’s company leadership feels it is important to not only be good stewards of the environment and good corporate citizens, but also to fulfill company core values to “take action and be accountable” and to “protect and respect nature.” In 2019, SOLitude staff volunteered more than 3,850 collective hours.
