In the spirit of the holiday season, SOLitude Lake Management has continued its annual HOLiday Cheer efforts through The SOLution, SOLitude’s corporate volunteering and outreach program. This year, SOLitude donated games, gift cards, toys, clothes and other necessities to sick children and five under-resourced families located throughout the country. Now in the program's sixth year, the 2017 HOLiday Cheer donation totaled $10,121, which exceeded 2016 donations by 48 percent.
The HOLiday Cheer families “adopted” this year reside in Charlottesville, VA; Newark, DE; Saltsburg, PA; and Houston, TX. These families, which include 16 children in total, were selected by SOLitude staff, clients and faculty from local schools based on nominations showing a true need for cheer and financial support during a very trying time. Employees on the SOLitude team generously purchased gifts from the children’s wish lists to include items such as warm clothes and shoes, games, puzzles, books and sports gear. Each family also received a Target gift card and other retail gift cards to allow them to purchase additional household items and groceries for the holiday season.
In addition to family contributions, SOLitude helped spread cheer to health-stricken children spending their holidays at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), Shriners Hospital for Children in Springfield, MA, and the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD) in Norfolk, VA. $2,000 worth of toys, games and other gifts were delivered by the SOLitude team. The donation was bolstered by SOLitude’s annual social media campaign, which contributed an additional $10 for each new social media follower in the month of November.
Finally, SOLitude wrapped up this year’s HOLiday Cheer program by donating $1,489 worth of gifts to under-privileged children in Massachusetts through Toys for Tots, along with donating 21 Christmas turkeys and toys to families with elementary school children in Virginia, and volunteering a total of 57 hours in Virginia and Pennsylvania foodbanks.
“Our HOLiday Cheer program allows us to bring some much-needed joy to deserving children and families in our local communities,” said Tracy Fleming, Director of Marketing at SOLitude. “We are humbled to make a positive impact this holiday season. It would not be possible without the generous support of our vendors, clients and staff.”
The SOLution is a company-wide program that encourages the company and all employees to strive to “create a better world” through volunteerism, community outreach, sustainability and environmental consciousness. SOLitude’s company leadership feels it is important to not only be good stewards of the environment and good corporate citizens, but also to fulfill company core values to “take action and be accountable” and to “protect and respect nature.”
