Professional Engineer and Client Development Manager
Michael Norton joined SOLitude Lake Management as Client Development Manager, with key functions in retaining and expanding territory services. Michael assists in establishing and implementing business development strategies, and serves as an operational liaison between the client, field staff and the Regional Director. He is also a Licensed Applicator and Professional Engineer, and has utilized these skills for more than two decades while serving in a number of capacities in the lake and pond management industry.
Michael has a varied background in the engineering, aquatics and business management professions. His educational qualifications are based in mechanical-environmental-civil engineering disciplines, aquatic vegetation management, business administration and project management. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC and his Master of Business Administration degree from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. Michael followed early professional career experiences with NASA and GE Nuclear with a dozen years at Carolina Power & Light (CP&L) / Progress Energy. His work with biologists in assessments and treatments of utility properties for nuisance vegetation has continued since the early 1990s, as have his engineering and management roles.
Michael’s talents and joy in engineering and environmental management activities led to his creation of AquatiCO and Compass Pointe Engineering. Through the service provisions of these two companies for more than a decade, Michael was involved in the design, permitting, certification, inspection and maintenance of stormwater management systems. He offered expertise in land planning, site design, water and wastewater infrastructure permitting, stormwater management and erosion control. His opportunities to work with multiple public and private sector clients also afforded the ability to engage in cooperative efforts with regulatory personnel to improve guidance documents and ordinances at local and state levels.
Michael lives with his wife and son along the southeast coast of North Carolina, where they enjoy the proximity to immediate family members and lifelong friends of their native community. His love for the water keeps him near the ocean, rivers, lakes and ponds while at work and play. He enjoys a number of outdoor recreational activities, including camping, hiking, biking, fishing, tennis and golf. Michael also values time spent in volunteer efforts for his community and public school system.
