The Problem:
A HOA wanted to safeguard their central lake against muck buildup and eutrophication while supporting better recreational fishing.
Key Issues:
- Elevated nutrient levels.
- Poor sediment texture and high organic matter.
- Need for sustained water quality during the hottest season.
The Objective:
- Support a high-quality fishing environment for the community.
- Reduce accumulated muck and organic matter.
- Improve overall water clarity and suspended solids.
The Solution Overview:
The “Rapid Muck Reduction” program was applied biweekly from May to November. This program specifically targeted the organic matter in the sediment, converting it to a firmer, sand-like texture to improve the lake bottom.
The Results:
Community members reported that the lake “has never looked better,” and fishing success significantly increased. The sediment was successfully “cleaned,” with organic matter plummeting while sand composition increased.
Our lake has never looked better! We have never seen the community catch more fish.
