The Problem:
A 4-acre HOA pond was struggling with nuisance growth and associated muck buildup. The community found it harder to enjoy the waterbody’s deteriorating appearance and recreation; fishing had become difficult.
Key Issues:
- Persistent aesthetic issues and poor water appearance.
- Significant accumulation of organic muck in the shallow pond.
- History of low oxygen incidents and fish kills, often exacerbated by traditional herbicide treatments.
The Objective:
- Restore the pond’s aesthetics for the community.
- Reduce accumulated muck to improve depth and water quality.
- Improve fishing by restoring the balance of the ecosystem.
The Solution Overview:
A “TryMarine Muck Reduction” program was implemented in conjunction with mild herbicide treatments. This synergistic approach allowed for the management of nuisance vegetation while using TryMarine to process the resulting organic debris and reduce the phosphorus that fuels future growth.
The Results:
By combining these methods, the HOA restored balance to the ecosystem while avoiding the low oxygen incidents typically associated with herbicide use. Community feedback was immediate, with residents reporting successful fishing for the first time in years.
The pond looks nice, and the kids have been pulling fish out of the pond for the first time in years!
