SOLitude Lake Management celebrated over $16,500 in total 2012 charitable contributions and gifts to foundations like the National Forest Foundation, Wounded Warriors, SPCA, The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and more. Our employees contributed over 350 hours of volunteer service in 2012.
Shannon's notable determination to inspire her teammates to volunteer was a huge factor in selecting her for Volunteer of the Year. For her personal volunteering efforts, Shannon was recognized and awarded with two donations totaling over $1500 to the charity of her choice.
Through our social media followers and B-Strong Foundation, we provided much needed "HOLiday Cheer" by donating wish list gifts to several children affected with cancer, many who spent their holiday on the oncology floor of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Shannon's time spent volunteering in Oct. & Nov. alone was an astounding 42.5 hours. She spent many weekends at pet store "meet and greet" adoption events for animals from the Madison County Animal Shelter. Shannon's enthusiasm and relentless efforts to find these animals their "forever homes" were factors in her Volunteer of the 4th Quarter award.
Our Little GOBBLERS program helps underprivileged school age children, in the markets we service, bring home a Thanksgiving turkey or grocery store gift card to purchase holiday or other needed supplies.
Each office took the time to clean out, shred and recycle large plastic pesticide containers throughout the year – 8,508 containers in total! We care about the environment and want to keep all of these bulky containers and other recyclable items from filling up our landfills.
The SOLitude team prepared bags of food that were discretely stuffed into the backpacks of 470 underprivileged students at Title 1 elementary schools in Hampton and Newport News, VA. The Food Bank's BackPack Program gives underprivileged children food for the weekend when they are home.
Congratulations to Trina Duncan for being named The SOLution Volunteer of the Quarter for Q3, 2012! Trina spends many hours of her personal time working with the Virginia Beach SPCA. Kevin Tucker and Tracy King present her with a certificate recognizing her work.
Kudos to our Fredricksburg team who spent a day with the William Munroe Middle School students during their Watershed Day. Along with the students, the SOLitude team set up physical, chemical and biological stream monitoring stations.
CONGRATULATIONS to Shannon Junior for being named the Volunteer of the Quarter! For The SOLution corporate volunteering initiative, Shannon organized the Fredricksburg office to volunteer at Dogapalooza as well as donated many hours of her own time to the Madison County Animal Shelter and Casting Call.
SOLitude Lake Management made a donation to the National Forest Foundation to plant 200 trees. For each new "like" to our Facebook page in March and April, we promised to plant a tree. We received 167 new "likes" and the company donated an additional 33 trees.
SOLitude's owner, Kevin Tucker, donated time to his alma mater, James Madison University. He spoke to a venture creation class at the College of Business along with a group from the Net Impact program. Kevin left the group with this thought: "If you stop innovating, I don't think you have a chance."
On Valentine's Day, while many were spending time with loved ones, staff members from SOLitude spent time doing what they love – helping others! Our volunteers spent their afternoon at the Virginia Peninsula Food Bank assisting in the "Backpack Program," which gives underprivileged children nutritional food for the weekend.
Gavin Ferris participated in the 2012 Brandywine Polar Plunge in West Chester, PA. Funds raised at this annual event are used to support efforts to protect and conserve the natural resources of the Brandywine Valley.
Back row left to right: Dave Beasley & Dave Riedl, front row Shannon Junior and Matt Phillips volunteered at a Dogapalooza adoption event. Over 260 dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies were adopted!
Trina Duncan represented the Virginia Beach SPCA at a Walgreen's Customer Appreciation Day. She was with Cody, a beautiful, friendly three-year-old Great Pyrenees mix who was looking for his forever home.
Casting Call! What better way to get kids "hooked" on nature than by teaching them how to fish? Matt Phillips and Shannon Junior volunteered at the Family & Youth Casting Call to help "set the hook" for children to learn about nature and fishing in the Washington, DC area.
Clean the Bay Day with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Trina Duncan (on the left) and Ellen Stace (between her son and daughter) spent the morning cleaning up the bay around Fort Monroe in Hampton, VA.
Trina Duncan and Ellen Stace sorted food at the Foodbank of Southeastern VA as part of the BackPack Program. This nationally recognized program distributes nutritious food to children (who have been identified by school personnel as food insecure by a variety of criteria) at before weekends and/or school breaks.
While Gavin Ferris was representing SOLitude Lake Management in our effort to "be part of the SOLution," he snapped this photo of fellow volunteers at the "Inland Bays Cleanup" event in Delaware. They had a productive day and collected 2,640 pounds of trash!
It was Shelby's LUCKY DAY! This sweet dog was adopted by a nice family who attended a Petsmart event where Shannon Junior volunteered. Your hours of volunteering with the Madison County Animal Shelter goes a long way, Shannon! Thanks for being part of the SOLution!
