This waterbody is a 90-acre lake in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The lake was created as a borrow pit during the construction of I-64. It is surrounded by homes, with the exception of a small park along the western shore of the lake. The lake is downstream from a city landfill, and has been impacted by leaching of polluted water from the facility.

    Scope of Work:
Water Quality Monitoring Plan Development and Implementation.

    Project Description:
SOLitude Lake Management was hired by the Lake's Homeowners Association to assess the water quality in the lake due to their suspicions of polluted water entering the lake. SOLitude developed a plan to monitor the water quality in three areas of the lake: in the canal that feeds the lake, at the mouth of the canal where it discharges into the lake, and in the main body of the lake.

The parameters measured are E. coli and fecal coliforms, visibility, pH, alkalinity, nutrients, and the dissolved oxygen/temperature profile, and sampling is conducted three times per year. Based on the sampling conducted by SOLitude, it was determined that pollutants from the landfill have been leaching into the canal that feeds the lake, and the City has begun to implement Best Management Practices to reduce the point source pollution.
