This property is a vibrant community located in the southwestern area of Charlotte, NC, offering residents access to swimming pools, walking trails and green space. The HOA community has numerous stormwater BMP’s located throughout its six acres of land. In the spring of 2016, it was discovered that one of the stormwater ponds (BMP 2) had begun growing filamentous algae.
Scope of Work:
The algae quickly reached a nuisance level, and treatment was required to restore balance in the waterbody and to help keep the stormwater pond functioning properly and efficiently. The HOA has an annual maintenance contract with SOLitude, and algae treatment services are completed as part of their contact as needed.
An algae treatment with an environmentally sensitive aquatic product was conducted in May 2016. The registered aquatic herbicide product was used to treat the algae. The treatment plan was a success and the filamentous algae were effectively controlled after the initial application. Since the initial treatment, we have periodically checked on the stormwater pond throughout the growing season and no algae regrowth has been observed.
