Site Description:
This property is a community located in Greensboro, North Carolina and has a small stormwater pond, which has had a filamentous algae problem for several years. In the spring of 2016, the community manager reached out to SOLitude Lake Management for assistance.
Scope of Work:
Treat filamentous algae covering the community’s stormwater pond
Project Description:
After assessing the problem, it was decided to conduct an algae treatment with the intention of returning the stormwater pond to an aesthetically pleasing water feature in the community.
In April, we conducted three treatments with an environmentally sensitive aquatic product to control thick algae mats that were covering over half of the waterbody, with some extending all the way to the bottom of the pond. The algae were taken down slowly to decrease the risk of a fish kill and lower rates of product were used due to low alkaline water at the treatment site.
Algae were treated over a three-week period and during each visit we noticed that less algae was present. We monitored the pond throughout the summer, and no retreatment was required.
