    Project Timeframe:
    2015 to present

Michael Norton, Professional Engineer & Client Development Manager

    Key Staff:
    Nicholas Butler, Aquatic Specialist

    Site Description:
This city is located near the southeastern coast of North Carolina, in Brunswick County. There are numerous freshwater lakes within the city limits, many of which are used for recreational purposes that include boating, swimming and fishing. Water bodies are generally bordered by residential properties, vacant land, roadways, and a community golf course. SOLitude currently manages 430+ acres of these amenities.

    Mechanical Harvesting and Treatment Results

    Scope of Work:
Consulting Services; Aquatic Herbicide applications for treatment of submersed, emergent, and floating nuisance species; Mechanical Harvesting of maidencane and biomass.

    Project Description:
SOLitude Lake Management has served this client since 2015. Initial treatments involved the management of water milfoil in three separate lakes in response to concerns over recreational use restrictions. The increased public awareness and city’s interest in a strategy to manage its key water features has created a desire to manage a number of additional lakes on an annual basis. In 2017, SOLitude mobilized its mechanical harvesting team to address an overgrowth of maidencane in the largest city lake. While mobilized, the harvesting equipment was also used in three other lakes to remove floating bogs of biomass. SOLitude consults with the city on a regular basis as citizen questions or concerns arise, and also stays abreast of current work with NC Wildlife’s assistance in recreational fish stocking and monitoring.
