Through its corporate volunteering program, The SOLution, SOLitude Lake Management named Florida Regional Leader Alberto Florez the Volunteer of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2018. Alberto dedicated many free hours on weekends and evenings to community beautification projects, food bank visits and organizing team volunteering events.
Alberto is passionate about supporting his local community and kicked off the new year by participating in the Palm Beach County Trash Cleanup, alongside his wife, son and daughter. They helped collect 700 pounds from the Pine Glades Natural Area, a wildlife sanctuary that spans nearly 7,000 acres.
Alberto and his wife also spent time volunteering with the Palm Beach Food Bank. Together, they sorted food and organized boxes in the warehouse. Alberto enjoyed supporting the food bank so much that he is currently planning a SOLution team event to get his colleagues involved as well. The food bank, which partners with 170 companies and organizations, feeds more than 100,000 Palm Beach residents each year.
In addition to his current food bank event planning, Alberto successfully mobilized his colleagues for a team event alongside the Palm Beach County Department of Environmental Resources Management. The event centered on trash and debris removal at the Juno Dunes Natural Area in Juno Beach, FL. Alberto also encouraged several family members and friends to attend. Together, they removed 450 pounds of trash from the preserve area, helping to reduce senseless nutrient loading and restore balance in the delicate habitat.
In total, Alberto led or participated in 3 events and tallied 30 volunteer hours in the first quarter of 2018.
The SOLution is a company-wide program that encourages the company and all employees to strive to “create a better world” through volunteerism, community outreach, sustainability and environmental consciousness. SOLitude’s company leadership feels it is important to not only be good stewards of the environment and good corporate citizens, but also to fulfill company core values to “take action and be accountable” and to “protect and respect nature.” Since the program’s inception in 2012, SOLitude has donated more than $250,000 in goods and in-kind services and contributed 9,500 volunteer hours to our local community.
