Volunteer of the Quarter Helps Reunite Lost Dog With Adoptive Family
April 23rd, 2019
Through SOLitude’s corporate volunteering and community outreach program, The SOLution, the company has named Ecologist Shannon Junior of Northern Virginia as Volunteer of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2019. Shannon has been active through various volunteering and animal adoption events.
Shannon started the first quarter by volunteering with the Madison County Animal Shelter, where she worked one-on-one with animals waiting to be adopted. Likewise, she attended 12 pet adoption events. During the events, five dogs were adopted into new loving families. One pup, Cooper, was taken home but immediately escaped. Shannon organized a search party to look for the missing dog and even set a trap in a yard that he was spotted in. A few days later, Shannon organized another search party where over 25 volunteers searched by foot and car for most of the day, but, unfortunately, did not find Cooper. On February 10, another search party set out to find the missing dog. That day, with Shannon’s help, Cooper was finally found and safely returned to his new family – his story even made the local paper!
Shannon logged a total of 104 personal volunteering hours in the first quarter, with 3 hours spent searching for Cooper. Likewise, her last two adoption events in March pushed her over the 25,000 point threshold (SOLitude employees earn points based on how they choose to volunteer, as well as other factors); she’s the first SOLitude colleague to reach this milestone in 2019.
“Shannon’s passion for animals and enthusiasm for serving her community through The SOLution program are inspiring,” Director of Marketing Tracy Fleming said. “She truly embodies our mission to make the world a better place.”
In 2018, SOLitude staff volunteered more than 3,000 collective hours. Preceding Shannon as Volunteer of the Quarter was Florida Regional Manager Alberto Florez.
The SOLution is a company-wide program that encourages the company and all employees to strive to “create a better world” through volunteerism, community outreach, sustainability and environmental consciousness. SOLitude’s company leadership feels it is important to not only be good stewards of the environment and good corporate citizens, but also to fulfill company core values to “take action and be accountable” and to “protect and respect nature.”
