Now that summer is almost here, most of us are finding that our weekends are booking up quickly with soccer games, barbecues, weddings, and beach trips. So here is your reminder to SAVE THE DATE for July 30 through August 2, and register now for the 7th Annual Virginia Leadership Retreat (VLR). The VLR is a unique event for CAI Community Managers and Business Partners serving in Virginia that is geared towards higher level education during a long weekend of fun and networking. The Retreat will be held for the 6th year in a row at The Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, Virginia, but we will be mixing things up this year to provide a new and refreshing experience in the mountains of western Virginia.
If you have never attended the event before, 2015 would be a great year to be a first time attendee. Our theme this year invites you to head out West to the “Virginia Leadership Roundup”. Bring your cowboy boots and 10-gallon hats, and get ready to join us for events such as the “Saddle Up Cocktail Hour” at the Mountain Lodge on Thursday and the “Howdy Partner” Welcome Reception on Friday night. The banquet on Saturday night will feature a plated dinner this year, so we can enjoy some of the finest food that The Homestead has to offer. And in addition to the very popular Drink Mixology class, a Craft Beer Tasting will also be available as an alternative activity.
Education is the focus of the VLR, and this year we have assembled an amazing array of advanced topics and engaging speakers, which is approved for 8 hours of Continuing Education and PCAM Redesignation credits. We will be providing a Fair Housing session that will be facilitated by CICB approved speakers and will meet the requirement for manager licensing/recertification training. For those of you that missed out on attending the National Conference in Las Vegas, this is another opportunity to earn your recertification credits during a single event. Our Key Note Speaker this year is “Coach” Jerry Busone (former assistant coach of the Champion Old Dominion Lady Monarch’s basketball team), who will be giving sage advice on leadership that will be of interest to Managers and Business Partners alike. The “Interactive Education” class is a group favorite (remember the outrageous Hollywood Squares and Family Feud games?), and this year’s installment of “The Showdown at the OK Corral” is sure to be equally hysterical. Get your teams and costumes ready!
Although the core of the VLR is education, the heart is the opportunity to spend a fun and relaxing weekend socializing with our peers while enjoying the amenities of a world class resort. Many of the attendees take advantage of the reduced conference rate for lodging at The Homestead, and bring their families along for a mini-vacation. There are numerous events at the VLR that are geared towards family participation. As always, there will be a golf tournament on Friday on the Old Course, and for those of us who are less talented but just as competitive, the mini-golf tournament will be a repeat engagement this year. There will also be a carnival-style Family Field Day on Friday afternoon, complete with a Dizzy Bat Race and Potato Sack Race. Bingo and a Family Matinee will be available again this year, or the Lazy River might beckon to those desiring a less active afternoon.
There is no better way to earn education credits, network with peers, and excel in the Community Association Industry than by spending an exciting weekend at an exclusive resort with familiar colleagues and new friends. If you would like more information about the conference, the schedule and registration form can be downloaded from the WMCCAI website, or requested via email from the committee at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please be sure to “Like” the Virginia Leadership Retreat Facebook page to stay abreast on updates and announcements about the event. We hope to see you at The Homestead in July!
