Through its corporate volunteering and outreach program, The SOLution, SOLitude Lake Management, an industry leader in lake and pond management, fisheries management and related environmental services for the United States, donated $3,255 in turkeys and grocery store gift cards to 163 under resourced families to enhance their Thanksgiving celebration.
This year, SOLitude's 'Little GOBBLERs' program increased 15 percent over 2014. Fourteen elementary, middle and high schools identified a need for Thanksgiving meal donations within their schools and received donations.
The schools are located in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Newport News, Fredericksburg and Charlottesville, Virginia, Raleigh, North Carolina, Lincoln, Delaware, West Grove, Pennsylvania, and Jackson, Mississippi.
The schools and families were extremely grateful for SOLitude’s assistance at this time of the year.
"The 'Little GOBBLERS' program has been a blessing to my school for years," said Larry Hawkins, Family Engagement Specialist, Newport News Public Schools in Newport News, Virginia. He noted that the number of under resourced families has increased over the years. "Donations from a community-oriented company, such as SOLitude Lake Management, allow the school system to provide additional resources that otherwise these children and their families would not receive."
Beth Conaway, principal at the Evelyn I. Morris Early Childhood Center in the Milford School District in Lincoln, Delaware, expressed that this year's donation “is a valuable resource for [their] struggling families."
