Through our corporate volunteering and community outreach program, SOLitude has named Aquatic Technician Ryan Young as the Volunteer of the Quarter for the third quarter of 2017. In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, Ryan and his parents took action, spending more than 20 hours over Labor Day weekend transporting stranded neighbors through flooded streets with his family’s boat and retrieving belongings and pets from waterlogged homes. Ryan is now fostering a cat until the owner’s living situation improves.

The SOLutionAs flooding subsided, Ryan and his family continued to give back to their Houston, TX community, spending 10 hours delivering food and water through their local church, clearing debris, and helping neighbors remove damaged materials from their homes. Ryan also organized a work day for the entire Bryan, TX team at his parent’s home. Ryan delegated specific cleanup roles for each participant to help optimize efficiency and teamwork.

In addition to his volunteer work following Hurricane Harvey, Ryan took part in a team cleanup event at Wolf Pen Creek Park in Coldspring, TX, which was organized by Fisheries Biologist Cole Kabella. Together, the group collected 5 bags of trash and debris.
