SOLitude's Volunteer Of The Third Quarter Focuses on Conservation

by: SOLitude Lake Management   |   Oct 22, 2015

VolunteerQuarter3_Aaron_Cushing_with_TF__AMD_10.15_eSOLitude Lake Management, an industry leader in lake and pond management, fisheries management and related environmental services for the United States, is pleased to name Aaron Cushing, Fisheries & Wildlife Biologist and Environmental Scientist, as the Volunteer of the Quarter for the third quarter of 2015. This year to date, Aaron has logged 40 personal volunteering hours and 19 family hours towards SOLitude’s goal of 1200 volunteer hours for 2015. In the third quarter, he has participated in six volunteer events.

Aaron and his wife Lisa volunteer regularly with the Rivanna Conservation Society (RCS), which helps to safeguard the ecological, recreational, cultural and scenic resources of the Rivanna River and its tributaries. Aaron volunteers with RCS so often that he recently started leading and organizing various groups of students from area high schools and the University of Virginia in their cleanup efforts at reservoirs, river banks and hiking trails. He has also helped with fundraising events for RCS and plans to become a RCS "River Guardian" where he will be monitoring the river on a monthly basis to identify water quality and pollution problems, document fish populations, and more.

Aaron_and_Lisa_Cushing_Trash_Cart_Clean_the_Bay_Day_Charlottesville_2015_c2Aaron also participates in organized team volunteering events such as the annual Family & Youth Casting Call, which focuses on getting kids outdoors and "hooked" on fishing and the annual Dog Days of Summer event, which raises much-needed funds for the Madison County Animal Shelter's spay/neuter programs.

Aaron's latest SOLution initiative is helping his church maintain and improve a rain garden they installed last summer, to help catch and filter the stormwater runoff from the parking lot before it flows into the nearby creek.

“Aaron's passion for being a good steward of the environment and our natural resources shines through whether he is volunteering with a non-profit or working with a SOLitude client,” said Tracy Fleming, Director of Marketing. “He truly embodies being a part of 'The SOLution.'”
