Independence Day is often celebrated with boating and barbecues, but this year the SOLitude team is making a conscious effort to appreciate and uplift the heroes who make these celebrations possible.
Last week, more than 65 SOLitude team members across California, North Carolina, New Jersey, Missouri, Florida and Virginia crafted handmade 'thank you' letters for inclusion in care packages sent to troops, first responders, veterans, and caregivers. The effort is in collaboration with a nonprofit organization called Operation Gratitude, which has donated more than 2 million care packages to our nation's heroes since 2003.
SOLitude has a deep and long-held appreciation for the military, exemplified by years of support for projects and initiatives that benefit veterans and military families. In 2018, SOLitude and partners contributed more than $50,000 in goods and in-kind services to JT's YMCA Camp Grom, a 70-acre, beach-style adventure camp in Virginia Beach, VA, designed for wounded veterans, disabled children and families of the fallen. In recent years, SOLitude has also donated more than $20,000 to Combat Wounded Coalition, a non-profit organization that helps veterans overcome mental, physical and emotional scars from their service.
In addition to crafting letters for the military, many SOLitude team members also created cheery, sticker-covered cards for sick and traumatized children through Cardz for Kidz, an organization that partners with hospitals in more than 35 countries. Since 2010, the organization has delivered more than 83,000 homemade cards. SOLitude will follow these efforts in a few months by delivering gifts and meals to hospitalized children and families going through emotional or financial stress through the company's annual programs, Little GOBBLERs and HOLiday Cheer.
SOLitude regularly looks for ways to serve the community and create a better world through The SOLution, a company-wide program that encourages and rewards employees who practice volunteerism, community outreach, and environmental consciousness. Since the program began in 2012, SOLitude has donated more than $335,000 in goods and in-kind services and contributed 13,000 volunteer hours to our local communities across the country.
