Through its corporate volunteering program, The SOLution, SOLitude Lake Management has named Wildlife and Fisheries Biologist Cole Kabella as its Volunteer of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2017. Cole has dedicated many of his free weekends to volunteering and participating in fundraising events in Bryan, TX.
Much of Cole’s efforts went towards supporting the Aggieland Humane Society. There, he helped the shelter walk the dogs, clean kennels and clear the surrounding fence line of overgrown trees.
While Cole was volunteering with the shelter, he noticed that the quarter-acre pond on the property had become overrun with nuisance vegetation, including pond willows and water primrose. He took it upon himself to offer a pond management solution to the shelter. With products donated through The SOLution and the assistance of SOLitude’s Aquatic Scientist Travis McCarver, Cole has begun to remove the nuisance aquatic vegetation and restore the shelter’s pond.
Cole was also joined on several outings by his wife, further helping SOLitude reach its team goal for volunteer hours in 2017. Additionally, the couple participated in two races that benefitted the SPCA through sign-up fees and donations.
Cole’s volunteer efforts do not end there. Outside of his work for sheltered animals, he dedicated his time to clearing and removing garbage during neighborhood cleanups and is currently seeking new outreach opportunities for the Texas SOLitude team.
“Cole’s passion for the environment and the plants and animals that call it home truly embodies SOLitude’s mission,” said Tracy Fleming, Director of Marketing of SOLitude Lake Management. “His dedication to community stewardship is a wonderful example for all of us.”
